Where in the world is The Road?posted by Angie · March 5, 2009 5:17 PM

You know, I’m starting to wonder if I’m ever going to see the movie adaptation of The Road (based on the incredibly bleak - but good - Cormac McCarthy novel) is ever going to hit movie screens.
Originally scheduled for a November 2008 release, Rope of Silicon stated that it was pushed back because they didn’t want to do a rough job, pushing too hard for a release early enough to make the Oscar nods for that year. But here it is, March of 2009, and still the IMDB listing is showing it as still in post-production. The movie’s official web site remains mum.
With such little info out there, those of us who are eagerly anticipating the complete wasteland and end-of-the-world goodness are digging for scraps. There’s a radio clip from the BBC that is mainly media buzz about this already-anticipated movie, but it does at least share a bit of the score from the film. Screenrant, back in October, posted one new image from the film (that isn’t from the same sad 6 photos every web site has been using - including us) that does little more than prove to me that Viggo looks far hotter dirty (The Road, LOTR) than he does clean. And Quiet Earth rummaged up another dozen or so screenshots , including a few that finally showed Charlize Theron in her role in the film.
But pretty thin pickings, all around. I can’t imagine it coming out and trying to compete with summer blockbusters, and it’s getting too late for a spring launch (barely time to really promote it before it comes out), which means I’m afraid I’ll have to wait till fall for not one, but BOTH love-it-when-the-world-ends movies (2012, and The Road) to come out.
